In October the United States turns pink as we honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month across our nation. This campaign has several intents that including increasing the awareness of the disease, making sure we’re informed on early detection, raising funds for cancer research, and to make sure those who have been diagnosed with the disease have the help they need.
The SOPF has many events throughout the year to raise funds for their cause, but their signature event is the Walk at the Detroit Zoo, usually held the last Saturday in April. This event has grown bigger each year, adding more teams, sponsors and walkers. The first walk in 2007 raised $8,000. This year, nearly 3,000 participants walked and helped to raise $375,000.
OCMS for the past five years has either sponsored a team at the walk or been a sponsor. We encourage you to find out more about this wonderful organization by visiting their website at www.shadesofpinkfoundation.org.
