OCMS ANNUAL BABY SHOWER

OCMS held their 5th annual baby shower on May 7th for expecting and new mothers at the Healthy Start/Healthy Families Oakland in Pontiac. The shower is given for women who are in need or living in disadvantaged circumstances and are identified by the staff at St. Joseph Mercy’s Healthy Start/Healthy Families Oakland program.

Betty Chu, MD, an OB/GYN, gave a talk to the mothers and answered questions regarding care during pregnancy, signs of labor and post-partum care. Peggyann Nowak, MD, an otolaryngologist answered questions from the moms about ear tubes.

The attendees were treated to lunch and received gifts, including diaper bags, baby supplies, and handmade quilts donated by Great Lakes Heritage Quilters, a quilting group from Bloomfield Hills. In-kind contributions were also donated by Kristin Bernat and Dr Niru Prasad. The Michigan State Medical Society Physician Insurance Agency provided a donation to help purchase gifts for the shower.
